Introduction

DockTides ("we," "us," "our," or "Company") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and otherwise handle your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").

Information We Collect

Location Information

DockTides uses your device's GPS to determine your dock location. Location data is processed locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or third parties. You can disable location access in your device settings at any time.

Measurement Data

During calibration setup, you provide water depth measurements specific to your dock. This data is stored locally on your device and used only to calibrate predictions for your location.

Usage Information

We may collect non-personal usage statistics about how you interact with the Service (e.g., features used, error reports). This helps us improve functionality and identify bugs. This data is anonymized and does not identify you.

Device Information

We may collect information about your device (device model, operating system version) to ensure compatibility and provide technical support.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • To calculate accurate water depth predictions specific to your dock
  • To fix bugs and provide technical support
  • To comply with legal obligations
  • To protect the security and integrity of the Service

Data Storage & Local Processing

All personal data (location, measurements, settings) is stored locally on your device. We do not maintain a central database of user location or measurement data.

The Service fetches publicly available tide prediction data from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to generate forecasts. This is a read-only operation with no personal data sent to NOAA.

Third-Party Services

DockTides integrates with NOAA to retrieve tide predictions. NOAA's services are governed by their privacy policy. We do not share personal information with NOAA or other third parties.

Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device as long as you keep the application installed. You can delete all locally stored data by uninstalling the application or using the app's built-in data reset feature (if available).

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use strong device security practices.

Your Privacy Rights

Since all personal data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over your information:

  • Access: You can view all data stored in the app
  • Delete: You can delete data by uninstalling the app or using in-app reset features
  • Portability: Your locally-stored data belongs to you

Children's Privacy

DockTides does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
